GAKUCHOUKAN
  KENDO DOJO

KENDO DEFINITION, PURPOSE, AND METHOD

Kendo 剣道, means 'the way of the sword'.
Kendo tradition is a firm established practice, repeated in virtually unaltered form from generation to generation.

We are practising shinai-geiko, bokken kata and iaijutsu from the Tokugawa period (1603-1868). In this connection we can recommend the articles about Tokugawa Kendo and Japanese culture published by Danish Traditional Kendo Federation.

Our curriculum follows the Kendo guidelines issued by Danish Traditional Kendo Federation.

In our Dojo the individual student’s evolvement progress in interaction with the other students’ and we are in this matter mutual dependent on each other. The student does in this case have obligation towards the community in the group and vice versa.

Our history is briefly described on the website Kendo Lyngby.

We have international co-operation with like-minded Kendo groups. Furthermore we co-operate with Hillerød Kendo Dojo in Denmark, a Kendo Dojo which preserves Kendo traditions prior to the Meiji Restoration (1868).
